Belfast Rotary Club
Scholarships

The successful fundraising efforts of the Belfast Rotary Club are celebrated at a May luncheon when area students are awarded scholarships in the categories of leadership, service, and vocational achievement. Those who compete for the scholarships are nominated by high schools in Waldo County: Belfast Area High School, Searsport District High School, and Mount View High School, as well as the Waldo County Technical Center. The size and number of scholarships awarded depends upon the funds available.

2010 Scholarship Winners

When you read the stories of the teens who were awarded $21,000 in Belfast Rotary Club scholarships recently, you can’t help but be impressed with the accomplishments.

Among their achievements are: top class rankings, student athlete awards, class officers, honor bands and choruses, National Honor Society, writing awards, Student Senate leaders, completion of college courses while still in high school, acting awards, organizing the school prom, serving as reporters and photographers for the school newspaper and yearbook, and receiving National Merit Scholarship awards.

And their achievements aren’t limited to school activities, they also shovel snow for the disabled, organize public service projects, serve in a soup kitchen and in food pantries, keep the Stockton Springs recycling program going, fundraise to help the needy weatherize their homes, help fill holiday baskets, work at the Game Loft, help with the Camden Conference and work on raising awareness of social issues. One was even named the Maine Youth Volunteer of the Year by Gov. John Baldacci.
